Wednesday could be interesting

Two interesting things may happen tomorrow. First, Russia may decide to immediately cause 400,000 people to lose their jobs. Technically, it was decided a while ago, but July 1st will see the shutdown of their casino industry. I don’t know how concentrated Russia’s gambling industry is, but I’ve got visions of entire cities thrown out of work, rioting in the streets. And I’m not talking about Iran or Honduras (Related: I didn’t see much on my tumblr dashboard about Honduras, which is odd, because the US trained a few of those responsible for the coup).

The second issue is a little closer to home (ok, it is my home). California may start issuing IOUs. Midnight tonight is the deadline. California went down this road 17 years ago. Here’s what the article says:

The 1992 version of this melodrama ended badly, with drunken shouting, a fistfight, and a mysteriously stopped clock in the Assembly. Ultimately, the production ran all summer, with IOUs, court fights and rock-bottom performance ratings for politicians of all stripes.

This is ending badly? Turn this into a reality TV show!

What an interesting world we live in
